HISTORY OF CHANGES TO THE GNETxxxx.ZIP INFORMATIONAL PACKAGE
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
July 1992 - Added this file to the archive... :-)
Changes made in POLICY.TXT
Network Policy 1 - SysOps shouldn't kill a message sent by a
user unless that message is deemed dis-
tasteful or is vulgar in nature.
Network Policy 3 - ANSI messages are no longer allowed in the
BBS Ads conference. The only place where
ANSI should be shared is in the ANSI ART
conference, since users with ANSI
capabilities will most likely be found
there.
Network Policy 6 - Handles are acceptable in the ADULTS
conference.
Network Policy 7 - All nodes aren't required to carry the
GNET PICNIC conference, since not all
systems are able to show up. Instead, if
any node would like to have a picnic in
their area, they can setup a conference
for planning it or discuss it in their
regional administration conference.
This is a silly policy, but I thought
I'd mention it anyway... :-)
Changes made to APPLY.FRM:
Added additional fields for use by the Network Host. Just
cosmetic and necessary for filing purposes only.
Files added to GNETxxxx.ZIP:
ADDENDUM.TXT - History of changes to the informational
packet.
GNETADDR.LST - Simple listing of who echo's off of who.
GNETGATE.LST - Listing of gateway feeds to other networks.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
September 1992 Did a final change to the nodelist. Since it's not really
that dependant for the system's to have a node address, I
do keep track of things through it, so I made a final one
based on the area code and who echo's off of who, so things
are now set. (Mike N. and I had done this previously but I
never really got around to putting it in the info packet:-)
Added a definition for Zone Host. Since we now reach into
Canada (thanks Andy!) we needed to define this position in
the distribution system.
Files added to GNETxxxx.ZIP:
GNETZONE.LST - Directory of defined Zones, Superregions and
Regions within the network.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
October 1992 I made a change to the conference list (GNETCONF.LST) file
to reflect the new changes in the network. Some conferences
were dropped from the network, a few were merged into single
conferences and a few were renamed.
I have also compiled a complete Fido technology nodelist for
our new node in South Bend, IN. (Welcome aboard, Rebecca!)
Although we are primarily a QWK based network, we do make
provisions for systems that don't have access to that form of
networking.
Also, after a severe hard disk failure, the Network Host went
offline for the weekend of October 3rd-4th.
Files added to GNETxxxx.ZIP
GNETLIST.wwy - Fido technology nodelist for GENIUSnet EMS.
ww - The current week of the year.
y - The current year (after 1991).
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
November 1992 I was happy with the packet this month, so there were no
changes to the information packet... =)
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
December 1992 Fixed a typo in the GNETCONF.LST file. The MULTITASKERS
conference was listed as MULTASKERS in the area names field
for Fido technology. It should be listed as MULTITASKERS.
Currently, I've been releasing the Fido technology nodelist
only with the month mail packets. As soon as we start adding
more nodes to the network, I'll begin releasing a weekly
nodelist.
We're now able to completely accomodate Fido technology into
the network. Thanks to Robb Kittredge (author of Qfront)
The Vampyre Bar! BBS is now completely capable of handling
Fido styled networking.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
February 1993 Changes made in POLICY.TXT:
Network Policy 5 - After a little incident during January,
it was decided by the Steering Committee
that the Network itself is technically a
"user" and is protected from attack
messages just as the users of the network
themselves are.
As of February 1st, 1993, the Network Host is now able to
hatch the information packet, nodelist and nodediffs into
the network via HATCH by Barry Geller. Now, a weekly node-
list and nodediff file will be made available to any node
who wishes to poll the Network Host (100:100/0). In the
future, there may also be provisions made to hatch other
files into the network, depending on the demand and amount
of Fido technology nodes in the network. All hatch of files
into the network will be handled by the Network Host unless
special provision is made.
Files added to GNETxxxx.ZIP
GNETAREA.BBS - For Network HUBS, HOSTs and SUPERREGIONALS
that are using Fido technology to perform
echoing. This is a SQAEM compatible listing
of all available conferences, including the
long and short descriptions of each conference.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
March 1993 Added a mention in the APPLY.FRM about sending the application
to either the applying node's Zone Host or to the Network Host
via netmail if Fido technology is preferred for echoing.
Added an entry to APPLY.FRM for the type of network technology
the applying node wishes (Fido FTS or QWK).
There was also a reworking of the superregion listings for the
network. Please refer to GNETZONE.LST for more details.
Files added to GNETxxxx.ZIP
GNETFILE.LST - A listing of the file echo areas available from
the Network Host (100:100/0), Connections! BBS
(100:100/3) and the Canadian Zone Host
(101:101/0).
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
April 1993 Reworked the naming conventions for positions both in the net-
work hierarchy and in the mail distribution network. Old names
and titles were removed and new, active titles were entered.
Changes in POLICY.TXT
Network Policy 12 - Network EchoMail Hours are determined by
the active NEC.
Network Policy 13 - It is now made clear and simple how mail
is distributed to nodes within the
network.
The GNETZONE.LST and GNETADDR.LST files was removed from the
info packet since the official nodelist explains all
topographical areas and node addresses within the network and
is more easily distributed and readily available.
